I want to share a story with you. A story about a tender moment I witnessed between two young children. It’s a story that reminds us that we all have the intuitive capacity to heal and be healed.
My daughter was just enrolled in a preschool prep class. It’s an introductory series that provides children an initial opportunity to experience a school setting without a parent or guardian present. As I walked my daughter to the classroom on the first day, I saw a little girl with tear stained cheeks standing by the door watching her nanny leave.
I also observed a little boy playing cheerfully with friends as students filtered inside. According to the teacher, this was not always the case. Apparently, the boy started attending class in the previous session and suffered from one of the worst cases of separation anxiety she had seen. For weeks, he cried in protest every time he was brought to class. This makes what he did all the more remarkable.
Noticing the little girl and how upset she was, the boy approached her. Wordlessly, he reached out and took her hand in his. He did not try to placate her and he was not dismissive of her feelings. He simply stood there holding her hand. This moment perfectly reflects the purity of wisdom and innocent connections we all have within us but that children are especially good at displaying. His heart had healed and now he was allowing the little girl time and space to do the same.
As adults, our tendency is to fix problems…arguments with family members, disagreements at work, anxiety when faced with change. But it is important to remember that fixing and healing are two very different actions. Do you recall the stress assessment and trigger worksheet we shared with you at the holidays? Your triggers are often reflections of stressors you have “fixed” but you have not yet healed from. (If you missed it, here is the link to download the worksheet.)
Triggers affect your everyday happiness, most significant relationships and your inner peace.
Looking at your own frustrations, do you crave personal growth so you can live with less stress? Have you tried conventional talk therapy but still feel that issues are unresolved? Are you willing to try alternative therapies? Finding the right support person and strategy can take time. Not ready just yet? That’s ok. Whether you are 2 or 52, evolving and growing is a process that unfolds differently for everyone. It is not immediate, nor is it final. For now, schedule a massage and stay tuned to our newsletters. In the meantime, we will be here…holding your hand.
