A note from the owner, Aimee.
Fairly confident it would no longer snow this year, it was Memorial Day weekend before I put my shovel back in the garage. When I emerged, schools were out and I questioned how Chicagoland went from March to June. Like many of you, I began the year with renewed determination to get my life in better order. The goal was to attack nagging but necessary tasks so I could make more efficient use of my time.
The problem, as is always the case for me...for most of us, is that my days are filled with "audibles" or unforeseen changes in plans. We must continually adapt to these surprises. With each unexpected event though, the more we actually have to do and the more likely we are to slide into unhealthy habits. Days become a blur, strung together by work commutes and a haunting checklist of chores, the passing of each week marked only by the mundane act of putting out the garbage.
When these thoughts start running through my mind, I know I need to take a step back before an avalanche of errands and responsibilities and distractions buries me alive. I need to care for myself. Obviously, getting a massage or a facial will not get my yard work done. It will make me feel better though. It will clear my mind and lessen my anxiety about all that I have yet to do. It will prompt me to let go of stress that is largely self-induced. After all, I realize the world will continue to go 'round if my house is a mess. My daily worries and tense muscles are a gentle reminder to take care of myself though. And what can be more important than placing yourself number one on your to-do list?
